DCC EX 8874 Motor Shield for Command Station Builds

The EX-Motorshield8874 is a DCC-EX compatible motor shield for Arduino-based model railway command station builds. It is pin compatible with the original Arduino Motor Shield Rev3, but offers improved electrical performance for higher loads and more robust DCC-EX use.

• DRV8874 H-bridge drivers: based on two Texas Instruments DRV8874 motor drivers with integrated current sensing.
• Wide input supply range: onboard DC-DC buck converter supports Arduino power from a 9V to 30V input supply.
• Reverse polarity protection: helps protect the circuit if the power supply is accidentally connected the wrong way round.
• Status LED: gives a visual indication of supply status.

Compatibility and Use Cases

The 8874 motor shield is specifically designed for use with a DCC EX command station or compatible Arduino-based DCC-EX build. It can also be used as a stronger replacement for an Arduino Motor Shield R3 in suitable electronics projects involving inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, DC motors and stepper motors.

For a neater build, pair the board with a DCC-EX WiFi shield, a 3D printed DCC EX case and a compatible 15V 5A DC power supply.
