What protocol does Engine Driver use with DCC-EX?

Engine Driver can connect using WiThrottle protocol or DCC-EX Native Commands.

For basic throttle control, either approach can work depending on the setup. For DCC-EX-specific features, the Native protocol is important because it supports features such as:

  • Reading and writing DCC addresses on the programming track.
  • Reading and writing CVs on the programming track.
  • Writing CVs on the main track.
  • Sending native commands to the command station.
  • TrackManager control.
